In another first for Klip Collective, we had the opportunity to design and fabricate three 7-foot-tall sculptures and develop content for them as part of an absolutely massive installation at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

Each sculpture represents a third of a continuous cycle of life: birth (seed), life (fruit), and death (fungus). The content on each sculpture is a continuous six-minute loop, with each audio track functioning as a layer of the others.

Seed

Seed, the first phase in Life Cycle

Ricardo asked if we could make a plant like structure, where each petal was a mouth that sang in sync with the music. Of course we can!

Fruit

Fruit, the second phase in Life Cycle

Creating textures in substance, animations in Houdini, and rendering / compositing in Touchdesigner were the keys to the vivid colors on this install.

Fungus

Fungus, the final phase of Life Cycle.

The death phase of the cycle got really trippy. It was so fun to play with the idea of decay, but visualize it as vibrantly as I could.

Life Cycle All

A look at the working previz of all phases side by side.

It's a wrap.

Life Cycle was one of several installations that made up Time Loop, commissioned by and installed at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. An amazing project created by an amazing group of people.
